When acne inflammation reaches deep into the skin, the healing process can leave a mark. Most acne scars are atrophic — small depressions where collagen was lost: narrow ice-pick scars, rounded rolling scars and box-shaped boxcar scars. Less often, the skin over-heals and forms raised scars. Red and brown marks after acne are not true scars, but are often treated in the same plan.
Scars respond to treatments that stimulate new collagen and remodel the surface. Results build gradually and depend on scar type, depth and skin type; the aim is a clear improvement in texture rather than perfectly flawless skin.

Matching thetreatment to you.
Scar type comes first. Rolling and boxcar scars respond well to RF microneedling — Morpheus8 and Secret RF — which remodel collagen at depth. Dermablate resurfacing smooths the surface and is especially useful for sharper edges. Dermapen is a gentler option for milder scarring.
Skin type and downtime come next. Microneedling and RF microneedling are suitable for a wide range of skin types; resurfacing needs more care in darker skin and a few quiet days. PRP and skin regeneration protocols support healing and can be added to the sessions; peels address marks and surface texture.
Active acne needs to be under control first. Resurfacing is usually planned for the cooler months.

The doctor identifies the scar types in each area, assesses skin type and acne activity, and photographs the skin under side lighting.

It depends on the scar type. RF microneedling suits rolling and boxcar scars, resurfacing suits surface texture and sharper edges, and combinations often work best.
Most people need a course of three to six sessions. Deeper scarring may need more.
RF microneedling is generally suitable for darker skin types. Laser resurfacing needs more cautious settings, and the doctor will advise what suits you.
